Typically no. Unless your gears are completely shot. The crush sleeve sets your pinion preload as do the shims, it's just a different and less precise way of getting there.
Cleanly is the operative word when it comes down to being doable. Like Vee said, as long as you don't damage the carrier shims or mix up which side of the carrier they come off of you're good. The hardest part is not fuching up those carrier shims when pulling the bearings off.
