my theory is they bought it lifted and the PO took the 4 tires and wheels under it off and left the spare.

i was recently warned most anything out of my mouth that is non-technical will result in exile. what a loss that would be!

if/when anyone decides to upgrade their sound system, i can actually help with that. speakers-wise bestbuy/crutchfield sell ok stuff but most of it (or better) can be found much cheaper at www.partsexpress.com ...just not going to have the fancy logo on it.

two 12"' woofers built to handle 1000 real watts will slam a jamaican dance hall which has many more liters of volume to fill w/ sound than your rig. i can probably get you to 120 db (the human threshold of pain for musics) and have it sounding quite nice for under 300 bucks so long as you've already got a head unit, don't mind an ebay amp from the late 90's (right before the entire industry figured out the bulk of their consumers were morons that think more watts=awesome) or care about fancy logos.

yeah, abe, like that will ever happen. pry not. but i can tell ya lots more if anyone ever gets the bug to upgrade their sound.

Keep in mind the rough/unable to idle issue only occurs AFTER I have difficulty cranking/starting.

At that point the system power is probably pulled down so low that it might cause a hiccup in the computer ??????

At first I thought the issue was a hot issue, but the failure to crank/start occurred when it was stone cold after an evening ride from Bel Air to BWI and back with the headlights ON.

Gotcha...still doubt the starter....I would clean the fuel system really well, and measure actual fuel pressure at the rail. Another option is the fuel pump is starting to go.

My old zj had the same problem, cleaned the fuel system and replaced the fuel lines.

Well I did a little digging this after noon and the battery cables are something of a mess and need to be swapped out. Aftermarket terminal on the battery, and when I pulled on the NEG wire I could see it moving OUT of the connector even though the strap above it was all the way tightened down.

I think that may be the first thing to do, from what I can tell the issue is not just the NEG terminal.

It looks like a previous owner just butchered off the OEM ends and added on aftermarket. He/She did a poor job because when they cut off the old ends they in effect shortened the cable and there is a strain evident on the positive side.

When I first got this the POS cable was loose in the terminal so I dismantled it, cleaned it and reassembled. I can see where it is much like the NEG side in that the hold down on the terminal is not as tight as it should be.

Going to Crazy Rays tomorrow to see if I can find a ZJ with a salvageable set of cable. If I cannot then I will pull them anyway, measure them and buy all new wire and terminals and build a set.

Not a job I wanted to be doing but at least the weather will be OK tomorrow.

Fuel System Cleaning - recommendations ?????? Toss in a can of SEAFOAM ???? ( use that on my motorcycles and have never had a fuel system issue with them )

EDIT: Walked outside and the charger indicated battery was near FULL CHARGE. Cranking was sluggish but eventually it did start.

If the battery is good and the cables are good that starter should be cranking it's **** off ..... but it is not, and that pulls down the voltage which could effect things like that fuel pump.

Gotta get the motor spinning before it can start.
