No, they're no different. Only thing different is 95 and older are 21 spline input from tranny, 96 and newer are 23 spline

No problem. If his was older just do what I did and take the output shaft and gears out and throw them in yours. Still means you have to split your case in half to do it, but better in the end anyways. Plus when you split your case you can thoroughly clean it and inspect for any damage you might not have otherwise. It's a lot easier with the case out of the Jeep, but not impossible with it in.
