The shocks are bolt-on. You just have to press out the barpin from your old ones, and press it into the JK shocks. The shocks don't give you lift; they absorb bumps between the axles and the body. Your shocks have to have the proper lengths to work with whatever amount of lift you have. Those JK Wrangler shocks work with a 3" lift on an XJ because of the length.
