yeah a few of my friends are on it.....over the years bass river has really seemed to be getting it good. i asked my buddy who was there with the stafford fire company and he said it started off as a 50 acre (small) brush fire. not even an hour later i got an update from him saying it was at 350 acres! and it'll probably burn a total of 800 before its out. its not going to be an epic fire or anything, bass river is so wet and swampy that there only so much dry pines that can burn before it goes out, or so my buddy who is down there told me..i know your new to the pines eugene but fires actually happen here ALL the time, and they are actually an important part of the ecology of the pine barrens. the pitch pines (pretty much the only tree you see out there) need the heat of the fires to open there pine cones so new trees can fall. if you ever look at a burnt up area there is always adult charred trees and new babies growing all around it.
