Still waiting for the timing chain kit to come in. Wondered if you could give me any insight as to what these timing tests indicate to you. Below is a link to a video I made. I really appreciate your help.

Here is a photo of the result of doing the rotor movement test. Did it several times and the rotor doesn't move until I get to 20 on the timing scale. Forward to line up with 0 then back until the rotor barely moves. When I first start to move the harmonic balancer, it jumps to 4 with no effort at all.

Yeah, that's definitely a lot of slop going on. But that could be more than just the timing belt. Could be the cam gear for the distributor. Did you try the distributor indexing?

I will have to look that up. Honestly I don't understand what that is. This whole thing has been a crash course for me. It's been tiring, frustrating and depressing. Yet kind of fun at the same time. Go figure.

I looked it up. If I have this right. I do know that when aligning the timing marks the rotor is on cylinder one. But that is only if I have rotated the balancer enough to get rid of the play.

I think at this point you're going to have to wait until you get the new timing chain on there. Way too much play in everything to proceed further.

Replacing the timing chain fixed it. I was in heaven when it started. It started with barely a turn of the ignition. Happened so fast I was startled at first. It has never started like that since I have owned it. You have been a great help and I intend to keep this jeep for many years to come. So I know I will be back here from time to time. Cheers and have a great weekend!!!!!!!!!!
