The XJ parts in the Tampa Bay area are slim pickins' I just moved back home from Colorado and there were so many XJ parts that came up daily
Every time I listed something it was gone hours later, and every time I found something I wanted it was gone before I could get my hands on it!

How's everyone been doing? Any changes to peoples builds? I'm working angles here at home to get rid of the current family rig and replace it with a 98-2000 XJ just gonna take some time.

I did some more cutting to the front fenders and hammered the pinch seam flush today. Don't want my new tires gettin' slashed up. Didn't get an "after" pic though.

Super easy conversion and well worth the effort, guys.
Couple pointers:
1) Try to grab a High-pinion Dana 30 from a 91-98 XJ. Aside from it having a high-pinion (obviously), it has larger u-joints and no CAD (center axle disconnect) bs to mess with
2) Make sure you grab the shift gate (attaches to the shifter linkage assembly in the floor), the shift linkage (attaches the transfer case to the shift lever), and the shift bezel (replaces the "blank" on your center console).
3) If you REALLY care about the transfer case indicator lights, make sure you get BOTH sides of the wiring harness in case you have to splice in the connector... in which case, also make sure you have a wiring diagram of your specific vehicle year handy.
4) Pay attention to the speedo sender on the transfer case that you're putting in. If it's from the same series (00-01, 96-99, 91-95, 87-90, etc) you should be fine... however, if you're using an transfer case out of a different series (e.i. swapping in a transfer case from a 96 into a 92), you'll want to retain your existing speedo sender.... it will work, don't worry.
5) More info on transmission compatibility info here.... http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1053970
6) Front driveshaft out of an XJ.... even if you're lifted.
7) Rear driveshaft can be a little tricky.
-If you have a STOCK HEIGHT XJ with a D35 in it, use the rear DS from a 4wd D35 Jeep... if it's an auto, use one from an auto, if it's a manual, use one from a manual *yes, it does matter*.
-If you have a LIFTED XJ with a Chrysler 8.25 in it, you can use a DS from a 4wd C8.25 Jeep -OR- a 4wd D35 Jeep. The DS out of the 4wd D35 Jeep will be a little longer and will actually help in the case of a lifted XJ to seat the DS yoke better onto the transfer case output shaft.
8) Unless you're also converting from auto to manual (or vice-versa), your existing NSS and TCU should work with the donor transmission. It might be easier to use the one that came out of the donor Jeep if you're going cross-years, due to wiring harness differences.
Feel free to PM me if you guys have any questions.

I agree on the 91+ as it starts you off with a good axle not having the CAD system.
Please correct me if I'm wrong here but this is from what I've gathered, to be pretty solid truth.

To the best of my knowledge the larger u-joints didn't show up until the 97-2001 XJ, otherwise you had to find them in a TJ with the D30 (also the 2001 year is the least desireable XJ D30 as it came low-pinion as well but all the way up to that mark is good to go, so 99&2000 are also good candidates)

Drove down to Miami from Orlando yesterday to pick this up for my 4wd conversion. Body is rusted out but has everything I'd need. The guy listed it as a '99 but turned out to be a '00 so it has the Dana LP. Not sure if I wanna use that or try to find a HP. Towed it with my Cherokee, all stock, 2wd. Pulled it like a champ.

That was the first thing I checked out when I got there. I think it's an early model 2000. The transfer case is stamped from 1999. I'll probably swap the transmission and case over and when I come across a HP I'll swap that in.

Well damn, the evidence is stacking up against my claim. Either way looks like a great donor. Good luck with the rest of the swap!
