sounds like i got a problem here guys transfor case

Default sounds like i got a problem here guys transfor case

so when i bought my 96 cherokee on the test drive i drove it in 2h and 4h dident bother putting it through n and into 4l. so today im on my way home and for some reason i thought id give it a try. i pull into a parking lot by my house. put it in 4h take it for a lap drives fine you can tell its in 4h even tho there is no dash light on ive herd theres souposed to be one i dont know whatever. i put the transmission in N pull the tcase through N and into 4L dosent go anywear when i put it back in drive im like okay well thats sweet. i put transmission in N and try to put tcase through N and to get back to 2h so i can take it home. i move the tcase to N and it grinds tried it again same thing shut off the jeep put it into 2h and drove home. is this a problem? is there something wrong did i do somethign wrong? anybody can point me in the right direction or point out my fault thanks in advance Tim

I would check your t case linkage first before you get too worried, there is alittle adjusting nut on it if it needs adjusted, if its bent maybe time for a junkyard run. Have you checked the t case fluid?

was the transmission in neutral (while stopped) when you were shifting in and out of 4low?
it's designed to shift in and out of 4hi in gear on the fly, but not 4low.

Yes it was running the trans was in neutral. Car was stopped. grinded when i tried to push it foward out of 4l
