You will learn to do the work.. or you will end up quitting the off-road hobby over the costs. The hobby is expensive to start with and so much more when you have to pay someone else to repair the stuff you tear up.

I'm sure you're right, and that's the hope/plan. We wanted someone who knows what they're doing to get us started down the right path.

Hello all! We're in Rockton, IL, and are in the process of jazz'n up a '99 XJ for our daughter. It started out as a bone stock Classic. It's our first one, so learning as we go. It just had the RE 3.5 lift installed, and is waiting for the IRO SYE and RE track bar to arrive so it can get back on the road. Auto Clinic in Rockford is doing the work. I trust Brad with all the work on my '76 Trans Am, so he was the natural choice. I know some of you will bristle at the fact that I'm paying someone else to do the work. Don't hate.
Haven't pulled the trigger on wheels & tires. After much thought and advice from good people on this site, we'll most likely go with 15x8 black steels (3.75 BS) with 31" MTZ's. By chance do any of you have a set of same-sized wheels/tires for sale?
Although it's for our daughter, it will be enjoyed by the family. Are there trails around here you all hit together every so often? We have a lot to learn, so hanging with folks like yourselves and your rigs will help us a lot.

Right??? I thought it was cool that she even wanted it! We lived in SoCal for a few years, and she loved the gnarly sinister SoCal style. While I'm not going all out since it's her first car, I'm getting bit by the bug.....so who knows. My T/A needs some love this spring, but this Jeep thing is getting fun!
FYI: We're at Whiffletree in Roscoe (our fav hangout) if anyone is out.

Good word. I know enough to be dangerous, but, for most things, I'm still at the need-instructions phase. Ha! My biz travels and personal schedule really limit garage time. Thankfully sites like this and NAXJA are super resources for information. Even if I can't do the work, I'm able to comb through threads & links for pointers.

as much o fthe stuff I read on Naxja and hear there is that much I read on here that is misleading, wrong, not a god idea, will not work etc. not to say a lot of things on pirate defy gravity but fabricating like some of those guys do will lead to that
just be careful reading something pn a website isn't always correct

I'm old and ugly... but not quite Yoda old and crotchety yet....
I have been a member of Naxja a LONG time. When I started it was about 85% info-15% BS. Now its about 60% info and 40% BS. Alot of the long time members that made it really great now just use other methods to message each other with questions or concerns.
When this board started it was about 90% basic info and 10% BS. Once it was sold the first time and they started promoted it very quickly went to 10% info and 90% BS.
At least Pirate has stayed the same.. 5% info to 95% BS. That 5% is really good.. but that board is so out of control that you will struggle to find it before getting pissed
