that's all i ever do, never taken it in to get aligned cause after it's lifted, the specs aren't the same. i just use some 1x2's that extend past the wheels and measure to align them, wear on the tires or normal, so i think it's good to go!

it should be:
the np 231 (command trac) has 2wd, 4-hi part time (front & rear drive shaft spin at the same rate), neutral (dis-engages t-case from trans), 4-lo part time (same as 4-hi except a 2.72 low range gear)
the np 242 (selec-trac) has 2wd, 4-hi part time (same as 231), 4-hi full-time (differential between front & rear drive shaft so you can drive with it engaged on the street), neutral (same as 231), 4-lo part time (same as 231).
I swapped in a 231 for my broken 242 (broke the main shaft). but the 231 keeps popping out of 4-hi and 4-lo while i'm offroading, so i'm going to re-build the 242 i broke and put it back in. plus the 4wd indicator light doesn't work between the two. so i will just keep the 231 as a back up in-case i break the 242 again.

4-hi full-time is fairly obsolete in houston (where we don't get ice/snow very often, lol), but i just hate the fact that my light doesn't light up in the dash with the 231 (since mine was wired for the 242 and they have different shift sensors). that and it keeps popping out of 4-hi and 4-lo, but i remember that someone told me that it was a shift gate issue. either way, 2 t-cases is better than 1 (in-case i break it again)
