El Paso, Here I come
Does anyone know if it is legal to just drive off into the desert out there in El Paso to wheel and camp out? The Army Voluntold me to report to Fort Bliss in Sept. I am coming from VA Beach with my 01 Grand Cherokee and M416 trailer and am interested in running out there in the desert if it is possible. Here in VA Beach the best offroad we have are the speed bumps at Walmart.

Yes it is. I am in Las Cruces (30-45 minutes or so north).
we have a great trail system up here. I know there is some in E.P. but unless you go into juarez (which even tho i do i would not recommend to most) to wheel or come up to LC there you will get bored in E.P.
btw here are some stuff you will be wheeling in:

also check out Military jeepers (out of Holloman) on facebook.

Hey bro, I wheeled out there from 06-08 and they have most excellent trail systems. When you get there try to hook up with a club called Desert X Lizards, they are on the web. Also in Feb. time frame Las Cruces has a big blow out (at least 5 days of carnage) called The Chile Challenge hit this up you won't be sorry. Also before you get out there grab some Spanish you’re going to need it. The speed bumps at Wali world will be the least of your worries

I saw your pics of the area. HOLY CRAP!!! I should have said that I drive a ""BONE STOCK"" 2001 WJ. THe area looks like fun though. I am not afraid to get her scratched, just dont want to break her way off of the beaten path.

Thanks for the offer 96_XJ it will be appreciated should I break something that a basic traveling tool kit can't fix.. Here at home I also have a fully stocked garage. However after 19 years in the Army, my wife said she is done with moving again so she is staying here in VA Beach. Besides my posting at Ft Bliss will hopefully be for about a year so I will be bringing just enough to get me by.
BTW. stripping to the skivies in 9 deg with snow is Nuking Futs!!!
