It was an awesome time! Everyone was super nice & helpful. We initially lined up with the Easy group, but then this smaller Moderate group who formed up off to the side asked if we wanted to run with them. They took us to the 101 obstacles to show us the ropes, then we gradually worked up in difficulty through the day. I had no idea our XJ was that capable at this stage of the build!!! Rock sliders are next on the list.
The transfer case shifter linkage was a pain all day, so I'll be tearing into that this week. (Could use a hand if your or anyone else has done it before.) I had to hold the shifter up with my right hand whenever we came into rough stuff. No joke, my right arm is still sore!
We're doing the MWJT members only run on the 8th in Wright City.
I guess I'll have to sign up and start trying things.. sounds like a great group.
We had to skip out on two trails due to not having good rocker, TC and diff protection. I'm hoping some of the ZJ's at the yard have skid plating left on them. I've read some of it can be made to work on an XJ.
I am definitely investing in that kit! Thanks!!!
You won't regret joining the group. Family friend culture and great people. If you do, can you make the Wright City event on the 8th?
Not sure if my rig will be ready... but I will try... I would like to get some dif and TC case protection before I go out myself..
Take pics if I don't make it!
We probably won't have TC & diff armor by then. Rock sliders won't be for at least month or two out....hard to justify dropping nearly $400 smackers on them with turkey day travels & Christmas around the corner. We'll just avoid the difficult & tougher moderate trails/obstacles for now. Our goal is to get more trail experience at the wheel, and keep making friends in the hobby.
Pics are always a given with us! When you do get your XJ out, bring some of those snappy decals. "This Side Up" is going on our XJ!
I got my Midwest Jeep Thing membership card and stickers today! I'm looking forward to the next run. I also don't have much underside protection yet, but I'll just stick to the easy trails until I beef up the rig a little more.
Scored a factory XJ gas tank skid plate & the two shields (not sure if I needed them, but wasn't going to leave them there), and two V8 ZJ tie rods at the junkyard this weekend! Ordered the dust boots from Energy Suspension. Hoping for enough time to get the parts installed before this weekend's run. If not, we'll stick to the easy & mild/moderate trails. Plus, I still need to get our TC protected. The factory skid plate on the junkyard XJ was banged up & rusted.

Speedway. Get a price going in for the tie rod. There was at least one more good one when I was there yesterday. Price range from $6 to $16, depending on who and their mood.
