Sorry to hear that man... Hopefully you can get it taken care of quick. Good news is you don't need the sway bars lolOriginally Posted by straightsixjeep
Black XJ with a d ring bumper and Aussie locker stickers. Tried replacing my coils in the shop today, got one done but my sway bar link stud snapped off and the coil spring retaining bolt stripped out. I ran out of time and couldnt get the other side done, and my teacher wouldnt let me borrow the compressor. Already a fun day

Thanks man, no problem just more crap to mess with. Getting ready to go pick up new sway bar links from the parts store, then wait for the poly bushing sway bar kit to come in the mail thats supposed to be here today. Iv been running without my rear sway bar for a while with no problems, however Iv been hesitant to remove the front since its a coil spring setup. Not saying its safe, but driving around today taking it up to 50mph and turning around 15-20mph I noticed no difference in the handling and I seriously didnt notice excessive body roll. Is my main concern driving on the highway without the sway bar?Originally Posted by RatchetMaster10

I drive mine highway with no sway bars all the time and like Logan said so do most of us in the group. The main thing is to avoid sudden sharp lane changes or evasive maneuvers...

I drive to Manhattan and back on a fairly regular basis without sway bars. If you drive smart and know it isn't a racecar then you'll be fine without any. Just don't be a *******

Thanks for the info guys, If I didnt have new poly bushings coming in and didnt just order new links Id pull it completely. Be cheaper than buying discos anyhow.

As far as the sway bars... get some disconnects for the front. I definitely notice a difference when I have mine attached and driving on the highway. I still have my rear one... as I tow with my rig sometimes. Haven't needed the extra flex... yet

I was looking into making a set of diy discos with clevis pins, however do you have to drill out the existing stud where the bottom of the link is mounted? Im tempted to put a wing nut and lock washer on the stud, and when Im just daily driving and I know im not wheelin I could put the stock nut and washer back on. Just put in new links with prothane bushings.

I've made a couple sets of discos with links like that, I'm at work now but I can take a pic of one later and explain it if you want

Thanks for the pic ratchet, I was hoping Id not have to knock the stud out, however if I did I could always just run a bolt threw if I wanted to go back to the stock setup. Im going to see if I can get some wing nuts tmrw, if I do and they hold then good, if not Il try the clevis pin setup.

So here it is! I used a wing nut up top, screw it down all the way then drill a hole where a hitch pin can stop the nut from spinning then you can leave the bottom with the stock bolt and wing nut and pin it too if you want.
Sorry about the bad pic
