I think they were used in some GM cars too. You might look at old posts about them. I believe someone posted a history of the different Jeep motors and what they had been associated with.
This is what I found:
1980-1985 Buick Skylark
1980-1984 Oldsmobile Omega
1980-1984 Pontiac Phoenix
1980-1985 Chevrolet Citation
1982-1986 Pontiac 6000
1982-1986 Chevrolet Celebrity
You may check if these are compatable with your current wiring and bolt patterns.
These were the later style of that motor:
1985-1986 Chevrolet Cavalier Z24
1985-1986 Pontiac 6000
1985 Chevrolet Citation, X-11 and some standard trims
1985-1986 Chevrolet Celebrity
1986 Buick Century
1985-1986 Cadillac Cimarron
The second group were injected and the first were carbed.

the 3.4 was also found in cameros..... I forget what year but I have the full write up on the swap so I may just have to go check the local junkyard and pray to the Jeep gods that they have what I'm looking for!

Is this motor for your XJ please tell me you are upgrading from a 4 banger or something. I wouldn't take out the 242 for the 3.4. the 4.0 is better IMO.

I heard the 4.0 was REALLY hard and that the 4.9 would bolt right up. I still haven't looked into this though. I go to a college where there is nothing but guys who are going here for there auto resto courses, its the only one in the nation where you can get a degree, and so I'm just getting my info from some of the guys here.
