Well i had a few set backs today which i didnt get her done today. Bought completely new brake set up for the rear axle. Opened her up and looked at the internals and she is clean enough to use as a plate to eat on. Seems like they had recently changed the rear end fluid as the fluid came out still clear and no metal shavings at all. Only low down im not excited about is that she is a open end rear end which means no more posi for now haha. Got my old axle out tonight and we were about to start putting the new one in when we forgot that i forgot to buy new u-bolts. . She should be up and running again tomorrow hopefully and be back in the game. Scored a chrysler 8.25 rear end from a 98 cherokee with 3:55 gears in it which i needed and i think it should be a 29 spline axle. Compared my dana 35 to it and my old axle looks wimpy compared to my new one. Axle only costed me 130 bucks and they pulled it for me so its not too bad. Did figure out the jeep i took the axle from has a brand new or freshly rebuilt transfer case which im probably picking up as a spare along with a brand new brake master cylinder. Anybody need any parts as she does have some good parts on her still. But thanks for the help guys. Ill chime in tomorrow night and let you guys know how everything went.

Oh and for your question i have the 242 transfer case and i still have my stock driveshaft.

nothing wrong with a 242 case, they are considered "weaker" than a 231 but if you have never broke your stock case then dont worry about it unless you get a deal on the 231 as itll be easier to put a sye on the back of it.

I like my 242 as i can quickly throw it in 4 wheel drive and it will kick in almost instantly. Also like driving down the road with it in 4 wheel drive as i heard you cant do that with a 231 case. What would a cheap price be for 242 case? This one i found looks freshly rebuilt and im not sure how much i should pay for it.

Well sorry i didnt get to you guys yesterday night as i was extremely tired and beat from trying to get two cars done. One was replacing intake gaskets and the other was my jeep. Anyways i finally got my jeep done and she is running amazing and is finally back on the road. Went ahead and replaced the whole rear brake system so now she stops on a dime.

Now i am having another problem that developed. When im at a stop light or stop sign she starts idling really rough and at some points she almost dies. Anybody know what it could be?
