I tried to be one of you and have a nice lifted XJ. I regret it bigtime. What a fricking waste of time and money. I have been messing with this piece of crap for a month now. Vibration city. Do this, vibrate, do that, vibrate, New driveshaft, still vibrates, 1 inch drop, stll vibrates, take it off, still vibrates, IRO hack n tap, still vibrates, 6* shim, still vibrates, 4* shim, still vibrates.
I SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT A BRONCO, BLOCKS IN THE BACK AND SPRINGS IN THE FRONT AND YOU ARE DRIVING.
If i would have known XJ's were so touchy and never ending i wouldnt have done a thing to it, it ran perfect and trustworthy BeFORE i added costom parts.
If one of you guys want to help me out i will pay, Either that or i will have a chit load of lift parts for sale, hell matbe even the whole jeep so i can get something else.

ANY TAKERS?

You sure the vibrations aren't coming from the tires?

Well atleast rear diffs are a dime a dozen. I do know how you feel though I have been chasing brake gremlins for a year and finally said screw it and live with the low pedal.

Honestly? What did you expect? Even the newest XJ is 10 years old and has some wear somewhere. Could there have been something missing when you added all these customs parts? Did you replace balljoints, all ujoints etc. (ie common consumable parts on a stock rig)?? Tire balance is a big one. Say its coming from the rear end? Maybe you have shot bearings in the rear end which is common, ask aircruiser.

Sorry to see that you feel you wasted money, but dont come on here knocking XJs because you are having problems with yours. There isnt a jeep on here that is without issues. Welcome to wild world of modifying vehicles and using them the way the factory would not have expected!

My take: Live with the vibrations and when something goes "BANG" then fix it. Then you at least know what the culprit was!!

haha i have yet to own a jeep that didnt have rear end issues at one point or another and i have currently owned 3. and broncos arent going to be that much better. sure you can do a 6" lift without as many needed add ons to get there, but you wont fit down most trails, they are alot heavier and get stuck easier, and they are older so more gremlins. i had a 78 bronco at one point and sold it 3 months later after pretty much re-wiring half the truck.

i like that last part btw austin haha. thats how the rear end went in my 99..locked up on the freeway then a loud bang followed by the worst metal on metal grinding noise ive ever heard.

I apologize for putting my XJ down.
You are right. I get very frustrated wrenching but i dont want to make the mechanic rich.
I have over $1000 into lifting my jeep 4 inches and it still isnt drivable.
If i take something off and put it back the same way in the same holes it should work right? Not for me.
I have too much into it to quit now, I found a rearend and as soon as it quits raining i will put it in.
I did drive it around pretty rough to find out what it is, i had a mechanical engineer with me, pretty smart guy, he says its the rearend.
Sorry guys, some people "like me" need a pep talk every once in a while and i hope you dont disown me, you guys are like brothers and i didnt always get along with mine when he was still here.
