like recovery items? or food items? lol....
I would say a tow strap, shovel(if in dirt/sand), blanket, flash lights are always good... plenty of snacks/water...
and obviously spare parts if you have a weak link.

If I had to pick only three, I'd say full size spare, hi-lift and a yank strap. Recommended, extra fluids, oil, trans, coolant, an assortment of tools, bungees, ratchet staps as well as extra food, water, clothes, a shovel, a flashlight. a first aide kit and I'm sure I'm missing a few things.

OH and 3 things to take:
1-strap
2-Tools
3-spare tire (been stranded without one, wont happen again)
