If he extends the bracket further back he should be fine and then strengthen with the other bracket inside

Its simple man. Will they work? Yes . There are people on here that have used them with no problems. I have the same hooks on my truck but its also for them.

Scrap yards sometimes will sell odds and end pieces for a little more then scrap value or even go to the steel plates they usually have scraps they they will sell for dirt cheap even if you have to weld them together to become a solid piece.
How do you think my bumper plates were added?

Its the same as the pictures for side braces your just adding a center piece that strengths it as a whole.

so if i had a 1/4 plate that ran from one bracket to the other and then extended the brackets further back it would be more solid

Yes to a point not like a 2x6 but yes and you remember to grab the inner too with some angle iron

Toxin I have like 15 feet of 1x4 steel you can use to make your bumper. I will run down to my Mom's this weekend to get it. I had it to make slider but was to thick.
