Default Few questions about moving to Colorado

I'm thinking about moving to Colorado after this winter. I was wondering about a few things before planning too seriously.

1. What is Colorado's laws for firearms? Like concealed carry and open carry and all that jazz.

2. I know Colorado has emission testing but how strict is it? Michigan doesn't have it so I've never had to worry about it. Will my new Magnaflow hiflow cat pass?

3. What would be a good area to look at for a house that is close to trails, cost of living is decent, and employment opportunites aren't bad. I noticed on traildamage.com that alot were around Chaffee County and Boulder County.

Any info would be much appreciated.

Thanks

1. you can get our concealed but you have to have proof of a handgun class or hunters safety IIRC in the last 10 years. Open carry is legal in certain counties. I don't know why you would open carry since it's easy enough to get a ccw.
2. Your high flow cat will pass as long as your motor is still running good, not ridiculously rich, etc.

3. Boulder county is a little more expensive and there are hippies everywhere in the city of boulder. Chaffee county is far away from everything.

White hit the first couple. Boulder is higher cost of living compared to most in the area. Longmont is not bad, Fort Collins or Colorado Dprings or any of the neighboring burbs for the major cities really. I dunno. Colorado is awesome regardless. If you wanna be close to the trails live on the west sides of Denver, boulder, Longmont, etc.

There are good trails (and shooting areas) everywhere along the front range. e-testing is pretty lenient and no safety inspections. employment opportunities everywhere kinda suck or at least in the college towns.

Don't know anything about the CCW there but, my oldest brother lives in Monument. It's a tiny little town NW of Colorado Springs and it's a nice place if you don't mind snow............they get roughly 100 inches a year.

I am a michigan boy myself and as such I love firearms and hate emissions laws! ccw is super easy, meet the requirements and they will issue you a permit. Denver county sucks for gun laws and just about anything else. At one point Denver county was sueing one of the gun shops for selling black rifles to denver residents. That county is always trying to find some way to limit it's residents rights and take more of their money. I moved to Jefferson county for that very reason. That being said, anywhere on the west side of town is nice and close to trails. Depending on what type of job you are looking for, Grand Junction can be great as well. I loved living out there. There are lots of trails and it is cheap to live. Mountain towns can be great as well (also depending on work) I made more living in Winter Park than I do in the Denver area and my cost of living was barely more.

As far as emissions are concerned, I passed so your high-flow should be fine

Thanks for the info. Been busy with work so it took a little while to check on this. As far as a job goes, I'd mostly be looking for anything in the diesel or heavy equipment field since that's what I have a degree in. And Denver sounds like its completely out of the picture. Any other advice/info?

I recently moved back to the denver area, made sure I installed a new cat and exhaust from the cat back. Living here prior I knew they only tested emissions, I have a magnaflow cat and muffler, no issues at the test stations, they just check to make sure you have one, doesnt seem to matter if its aftermarket or not.

And the Emissions testing only seems to be regulated around the metro areas, I have friends that register their cars outside of the metro areas and they dont require emissions testing, but having an address where you dont live can be challenging.

Grand Junction would be cool, barely an hour from Moab, UT. I may move there myself for that reason alone! Denver isnt so bad, lots of jeepers here and a decent night life, plus close proximity to lots of trails. Work is usually the main reason I move anywhere, if you find a good job and get paid decently enough, Colorado is a bad *** place to live.

Yeah living that close to Moab would be amazing. I'm thinking Grand Junction is where I should be looking.

chaffee county seems to have a bunch of tree huggers also. But as far as being away from everything not really.Salida has all the convienances of bigger cities.Lots of good trails in the area. Grizzly lake, Iron chest, chinaman gulch and many many more.I moved to western fremont county in march and don't want any part of the bigger cities. Jobs are out there you just have to take what you can and hold on till something better comes along. Had to take a rather large pay cut but living at 8,000 feet on the mountain is worth it. CCW? No problem, easy to get .You can conceal a weapon in your vehicle without a permit. No smog in this part of the state.

Stay away from Greeley/Evans. This area is starting to turn into gangland.

Good luck!
