If don't mind me asking. Why can't the dog be around the baby?

He's fine with our baby which is only 2 months old but my wife's sister was visiting from Australia with her 2 year old and he would run up to him and bark non- stop until he was put outside or the kid was picked up. I've heard they have trouble with toddlers that are the same size as them, maybe thinks he's another dog? It scared my wife enough that the whole week they were here he had to be kept outside. Don't want to have to do this every time a friend comes over with a little kid. Great dog just not for toddlers. We don't want to take a chance and it's only a matter of time until our son is that big.

sounds pretty typical of a smaller dog.. i would just put him outside or in a crate when people are over. as for your son, i think you need to give your dog the time and chance for him to get used to him. kids and dogs shouldn't be around each other unsupervised anyway, at least not for a loooong time. the crate will be a lot less traumatic than being re-homed. this is just my opinion btw, just trying to give you some ideas. i hate seeing dogs having to be given up.

I really don't want to have to crate him to have friends over with small children. It seems like defeating the purpose of a pet to me. We have had jude for a bit over a year and have tried to introduce him to several children but nothing has changed. We really do not want to give him up but feel that we have given it a good effort. Either way if anyone knows of someone or is interested please contact me.

Since you don't want to crate the dog my suggestion is go talk to a border collie rescue. That way you know your dog will be going to a good home and to someone that knows how to handle him

X2 My little dog is terrible with kids and just people outside of family, whenever we have them over we put him outside or in one of our rooms, we've had him since a baby and is now 12. I mean if your kid say peed on someone everytime they came over , would u give him away or to foster? Prob not , dog is the same way, you gotta teach it to do or not to do just like kids

Thanks for the input. We've talked to animal rescue in our area and even went to a dog trainer. Just trying to use all options to find a good home. This was just another outlet for searching.

Wow, sorry for asking for help. Didnt expect to have to go on the defensive to find my dog a good home. Thanks anyways. Everyone on here has always been helpful with jeep problems so thought I would try.

I'm on your side. People have no idea what your situation is so all the criticism is kind of uncalled for. Family/kids>dogs. Good luck in your search, giving up a dog is always a very hard situation.

Thank you, we do this with a heavy heart. Trying to use every option we have to find a good home is all I'm doing. Thanks for the good luck. It will happen and we do have enough time before our son becomes mobile. Any help is much appreciated.
