So, after finally getting over the death of my '93, I got to work on the '90 today. I needed it and getting dirty felt good. On the 93 the cam gear was worn down because the distributor was loose. I didn't want to do a top end rebuild so I parted a lot of it and put it on the '90. Sold the '93 for $350, couldn't believe I got that much for everything I took off. Entire interior, wheels, various hoses, a door, I mean, damn.
The '90 has had an issue with a transmission coolant line leak (bottom one). I was able to procure another from the Pull N Save on Peoria and 33rd in Aurora from a waggy around the same year. Brought it back and I couldn't get the old one off. Hit it with PB and every vise grip in my arsenal, just ended up rounding some edges out. Gonna buy a kit to extract it from Sears next weekend. Just cut the line then get the extraction socket on it.
In the meantime I fixed some vacuum leaks and 4 wheel drive works now! I also fixed a line from the TB to the MAP sensor, but soon after I was getting soot and black smoke coming from the tail pipe. It's gone now, but I think I may need to do the front O2 sensor. Maybe it will correct itself now that the leak is solved. I dunno.
I hope to have this thing wheeling within 2 weeks. But damn it's nice to get my hands dirty again.
And the vacuum axle actuated 4 wheel drive is the dumbest thing I've ever seen. I now understand why people build or buy corded posilocks. Unbelievably stupid design.
