Because of the snow forcast my work has changed the schedule, I hate being a slave to the ski industry. I might still go depending on what happens with this storm and with my workload. Mad rush to get some summer projects wrapped up.

Good news is the wheeling will be interesting for you guys.

alright, so the campgrounds are in fact closed, but camping is still permitted with a pack in/pack out deal. No water or other services are at the campgrounds so be prepared for that.

So I am not willing to throw in the towel just yet.

My wife will not go for no toilet facilities. So that being said I have found that the Lake Alpine Resort is still reanting cabins and tents (No heat in the tents) so we will be oppting for this route. http://www.lakealpineresort.com/accomodations.html

I am open to other sugestions but I quickly found this and while more money than I was expecting to pay is workable for us.

ill be transient camping at the trail head I do believe. I dont know if the snow is going to make it as far south as the trail, but with the top of DV being over 8000 feet, there is a chance of there being some there.

I work for Sugarbowl resort... Last night we picked up almost a foot of snow at 7000. We only expect a few more inches from the rest of this storm. But that being said I don't think our snow is gonna be fully melted off by the weekend, and ebbits pass is at 8000+ elevation so I doubt theirs will either. Sorry to tell you this.

On an more cheerful note... We could wheel at a lower elevation. Bear valley would be nice. I know other trails that will have snow on them but be doable. Could even put you guys up... Let me know.

I talked my way out of working this weekend on the off chance I would still head to slickrock... I will def be wheeling around home. Snow wheeling is awesome!

yeah, i just check the webcam for bear valley and it is PUKING at their base (for early October). Slick rock base is pretty much the same elevation as Bear Valley, maybe a little below where their base actually is, but I guarantee its dumping there too. Doubt its going to melt off, I was thinking Bear Valley would be lucky to get any, but they already have 10" so...

Im still down to go, and snow wheel, and camp there though. In fact I am planning on it and if you guys are down to snow wheel then I think we should still get out there.

no such thing as too early for snow. Im thinking about strapping up the ski rack for the camping trip and putting down some fresh tracks if there is any snow left. Probably will need to see another 10" at bear valley for me to do that though

I got this from a guy that was coming with us that lives in Angels Camp.

The Hwy4 gate that is between Bear Valley and Lake Alpine in closed for the winter. So the pass between Bear Valley and Markleville is closed for the winter. The trailhead by Lake Alpine, where Tim and I started our trip, is inaccessible from Lake Alpine Hwy 4.

So the way we were going over the hill from Hwy 89 is closed. The gate is locked for the Slick Rock run from Lake Alpine.
Anybody see a thyme here?

I dont think that road will be closed yet. I think we need to make a call tomorrow to see if they are going to be open or not. Whether the trail is even possible will depend on the amount of snow they get today
