Is a 650$ 86 Jeep Cherokee worth it?
I have an opportunity to buy a 86 Jeep Cherokee 2 for 4x4 with a V6 for 650$, this would be my first car and think it would be a cool idea, but I don’t know if it’s a good idea, it’s not running so so d have to fix it up and I don’t know much in cars, but I know ALOT of people who are and could help me... dose this sound like a good idea?? Honestly, no that doesnt sound like a good idea. Chances are, the Jeep is going to be in pretty rough shape and need a lot of work. If its not running, thats even worse. Do you have another $500-1000 saved up to put in it to make it a reliable driver? I would say wait a little longer, spend a little more for a running and driving one and preferably get one with the straight 6. Its got less problems.

Agreed. Wait and find an '87 or newer with the 4.0 straight six. WAY better engine and lots of info and help here to keep it running good.
A non running Cherokee with that GM V6 is not even worth $650 anyway.

The GM V6 in the early Cherokees is a turd. The only reason to buy an '84-'86 not running is if you were planning an engine swap to another 60° V6 with more guts or wanted to do something even more extreme with it. I'm with these other guys, look for a later one with a 4.0L straight six in it.
