Default Want to buy a Jeep Cherokee

Good evening. I'm new to Jeep, should say I had newer had any before, and I'm looking to buy a Jeep Cherokee 1997-2001. I've been told that I should buy certain year and model. May you suggest me what year and model is better? My budget is up to $4K. I like mountains and I currently have Cadillac SRX, which is a pretty good car, but it's not by any means SUV to drive in mountains. Please help me make a right choice. Thank you in advance.

99-2000 are stated to be the best... but you really cant go wrong with a 91+, whether or not you get a manual or auto they are both great transmissions, if you can find one with a 8.25 out back for the rear axle (you will know by the flat bottom)

Keep you eye out on Craigslist and check out other forums (naxja, pnwjeep and here)

Good luck with your search and if you do have questions make sure you post up, we are all here to help

Hey, perfect timing. I too am looking for a Cherokee I have owned two as fleet vehicles in the past and loved every minute of it.

It' now time for my 16 year old Daughter to have a car , I have started looking around the used Jeep market. I understand 01 and newer are preferred.

What are common problems I might need to keep an eye out for when shopping?
any peticular spots prone to rust? any certian gear or engine problems?

Thanks for your help I look forward to posting more soon.
