Hey Guys sorry it took so long but, it looks as though my patience has paid off. David Way did get back with me and here what he had to say:
Hi Brian,
Sorry it took so long for me to contact you. I also appreciate your willingness to step forward and be apart of the solution at Reiter.
Beginning April 3rd, I am hosting 2 work parties each month in the Reiter Foothills. The first Saturday and third Sunday of each month is a DNR designated work party at Reiter. For more information about these, please read our recent blog at: http://bit.ly/decegJ
I look forward to seeing you out there at one of our upcoming work parties!
Thanks,
David Way

That sucks. Sack Up was a fun trail. So, Misfit, is the word that Reiter will be open to 4x4 rigs again sometime soon????

In other news, I went up to Walker Valley OHV area (just east of Burlington) this last Saturday. Started out on The Upper Mainline Trail. It has basically become a forestry road...so even you guys with the pretty Jeeps have a fun trail to run up there. The Expressway was challenging as always. I didn't try the right (hard) side of the infamous Rockface as I was wheeling with acquitances and not friends. If I ended up on my lid I would probably be on my own...lol...and still a little gun shy of the obtacle that caused my very first broken axle shaft
. I have some good news of something good somebody finally did on a trail up there with a power saw. The left side of the Rockface can now be tackled from bottom to top in a midsize vehicle. I saw a Wrangler and two Toyotas do...lol...with difficulty I might add. The Wrangler had to be winched as he turned it sideways in the middle of his climb and almost rolled it...
. So, I took my XJ up the left side between the stump and Rockface without using any of the bypass. It was awesome!! The rest of Expressway was super muddy and fun just like always. Came down through the Rock Garden and went on to the top of Upper Mainline. Next I went through what I call the Short Cut Trail. It was pretty uneventful. Next Went to the Jeeps Cross Trail. This trail is kind of hidden and only the local yocals know about it. I suffered my only trail damage of the day trying to go around the big boulder in the middle of the trail. The logging road at the bottom of the trail that connects to the main road was blocked by fallen timber so I had to go back up through the trail to get out. I dented my other rear quarter on the same root hanging out while trying to squeeze around the same damn rock.
. So, made it out of that trail and headed up the new Timber Taimer Trail section. Those guys made a couple of really cool new trails complete with a couple of REALLY challenging hillclimbs. I sat and watched the Super geared toyotas and a couple of CJs try the one really tough hill climb. They all failed. The only guy I saw make it was in a HUGE 4 linked, 1 ton axled and big horsepower fuel injected V-8'd CJ on 49 inch IROKs. Even he busted a rear axle shaft when he tried it a second time.
I went back down the mountian via the Lower Mainline Trail. It is really dug out bad up at the top but, with all 4 wheels turning this time I made it without having to pull cable once. It was really muddy and fun in quite a few spots. The switchbacks are really getting dug out, too. There is one spot that is a side mirror/window getter if you're not careful. Thankful for my breakaway mirrors. Went on through, over the bridge and around the gate and out. It was a very fun day. Anybody who wants to do some fun 4wheeling in a place that is totally open and really easy to get to, needs to come on up to Walker Valley. This place is just 10 miles off of I-5 at Burlington. There is also a Denny's to meet at right off the freeway exit that has plenty of parking for tow rigs and trailors.
