Hey guys! First post, my names Josh. Anyways, I live in Washington-Naches area and I have found what I think is a good deal from a guy a few miles away. He has a 95 Cherokee, completely stock with around 56k on it. A gov used vehicle most of its life, I'm sure its been taken care of some what. The only problems are: non working headlights, and it cranks but wont start.

So here is a recap

  1. The headlight issue doesnt worry me, I think I can do that on my own.
  2. The crank issue on the other hand I am a bit worried about. Its either
    • The fuel pump like the guy thinks (or claims to think)
    • The crank sensor
    • Something I have over looked.
however these are they most common "wont start, but cranks" fixes I have found. He just replaced the battery too.
  3. Its 2wd. Is it worth it? He wants under 1k for it and said I can do a down payment and then monthly payments if I want, he got it as a project and then decided against it and just kept working on his others. I have not been mudding/off roading since I was 5 or 6 and have no idea what the Naches area is like for mudding. I dont PLAN to do anything too crazy in it, just something fun for the weekends.
Anyways I am hoping its the crank sensor since its cheaper lol. I read somewhere on my phone either on here or naxja that if its the pump I can put a bit of gas in the tb and it will start up. How hard is it to get to the throttle body on these?

But my main question is "is it worth it for the Naches area" 55800 seems nice and low. =) Thanks guys!

PS I posted in this area because I am curious about 2wd and Naches

You will definitely want a 4WD rig for wheeling in Naches.

As for your crank no start issue. Determine if you're getting just no fule or no fuel AND no spark. If you are getting spark it is most likely the fuel pump. Absense of fuel and spark would be CPS.

Unless you have a hook up where you can get an XJ: TC, Front DS and front 4WD axle assembly for free, it would be cheaper to just buy a 4WD XJ from the get go.

Ok, I was worried somebody was gonna say I need 4wd lol. I just can't find anything at all for cheap and I'm on a very low budget. My plan is to get something and work on it all winter and have it finished by summer next year. But I may just wait till I get some more cash. Would it be worth picking it up and fixing it to resell? He wants 850 "or a reasonable offer". So if I can pick it up for 775 to 800 and sell her for 1500 I'd do it.

Unfortunately, it would probably be really hard to sell it because all a 2WD XJs is really good for is a commuter rig and there are commuter rigs out there for sale for about the same price that do much better on fuel.

Alright, I'll probably just look around some more. Thank you a lot. Unless he offers it to me for like 400 that is. If I get it that cheap I'll just buy it for my sister and I can do a few little mods just for fun :P

Well, there you go. Yeah if he gives you a ridiculously good price, jump on it. I'm sure you could at least sell it for enough to put a good down payment on a 4WD XJ when you're ready.
