Default if I have to get towed...

Hi everyone,

I'm new to this site but have had a jeep Cherokee for the last 5 years. I have a cabin in the mountains and the road out is covered with snow. After today's storm it will be iffy as heck driving out on my own towing a trailer and sled.

My neighbor has a Thiokal and will lay the snow down in front of me with his wide tracks. I'll have chains on too so I don't think I'll any trouble. BUT, if I do get stuck he can pull me out.

Here is my question...given that I have a unibody frame and risk damaging it when being pulled, where is the best place to place the tow strap or rope?

Advice?

my only advice is if bieng towed or pulled out backwards do not let them '******' you, i had this happen by a strop attached to my tow bar and it bent the boot [trunk] floor up, no joke.

If you know you may need to get pulled out of an area, you really should invest in some tow points. There are lots of fairly cheap options for front and rear. If you have a rear hitch lots of companies make a D-Ring shackle for that. Tow hooks can be found for the front.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the advice. As it turned out I put chains on all four tires and drove out. There was 12 " of fresh snow today on top of snow packed by sledders. I stayed on their trail and punched it going up hills just the way my dad taught me back in Maine when I was learning to drive in this stuff. All in all a piece of cake. I decided not to try and pull a trailer too let alone one with a sled on it and its a good thing too because that would not have worked. I'll look in to tow hooks and make sure no one snatches me should I need help in the future. Again thanks for your advice.
