Dana 30 locker suggestions
I have a 4wd 97 xj and I am looking to lock my front Axel. Don't have the money for both at the moment. I want to go selectable and it looks like the top running are ARB and Eaton. Does anyone have either and would u purchase them again. I do go through a few creeks now and then if that makes a difference.

I am sure you have your reasons. However be aware that selectable lockers put a tremendous strain on the drive components and you will never be able to run more than a 33" tire on there without breaking an axle in high traction situations. But that being said, ARB has the better reputation

Any locker puts a strain on the axles, even for seasoned wheelers how have good control and finesse of the go pedal, especially if your tires start growing in size. There is no give in the front drive train when the axles are locked.
I have a Powertrax in my D30. I love the 50/50 traction up front while on trails, and I have a CAD I can disconnect in tight turns. I limited my tire 32 inches, and they are narrow. Forewarning: driving on snowy or icy roads is NOT fun if the front axle is engaged.

When you lock a selectable locker, it is like having a spool. Both tires have to turn the same speed. If you are making a turn, unlocked, the outside tire will travel faster than the inside. If you lock them together one tire must slip, or the axle shaft will break. With an auto locker the outside tire can travel faster until traction is needed. That is why The JK, JL and JT have to have stronger gears (44%) and 32 spline axles due to the selectable lockers in order to hold up to front and rear selectable lockers. I have a vid on the rocks and if you listen closely you can hear the locker changing sides for traction. You will hear a slight tink when one side releases

An OX locker with a short cable to a solenoid gives you push-button ease for about 1K less than ARB. Strong and reliable and not hard on your drive train if you use it ONLY when you need it - keep it off till you do. If you are going to have only one locker, put it in the rear - when you climb the weight shifts to the rear .
