LOL, no other car forum on the internet even comes close to the Jeep world where the sheer arrogance, elitism, and hostility towards beginners is so off the charts and red-lined .....that someone actually gets sh/t for taking the time to post a helpful DIY for beginners. I suggest you hop on a plane and get out of your flyover bubble. Not everyone grew up in a family of blue collar workers or mechanics. Most people I know don't even own a wrench. Most people don't know what a valve cover is. In fact, most people I know can't open their hood. People have to start somewhere. But, it's so easy, right? Yes, that's why the dealership charges over $300 to do this 15 min. job ($1200/hr pro rata) in the deepest recession in 80 years, and has a 4 week waiting list for the privilege. Think about it.

It is a good write up. Looks like you put a lot of work into it. I'm sure there are some people that will benefit from some more complete write ups like this. I have done a ton of these and it is pretty common on a 4.0. My only problem is that there are a few extra unneeded steps that may lead someone astray.
From a few posts back, this is what I would recommend in the future:
1. Get beer
2. Remove 13 bolts, one in the back with a 3" inch extension w/a wobble
3. Knock loose with manly hands or a hammer.
4. Scrape **** off
5. Install rubber gasket
6. Install in reverse order of disassembly

This is entertainment. As a technician I've done 9 of these and they don't come close to the 10 hours it took to do one. Also I have to agree this is over complicated. Want to write a good write up for anyone? Keep It Simple Stupid. Basic tools, basic steps, and helpful hints. Then you MAY get a good job.

I didn't either. My dad was a lineman and my mom a school teacher. I went into my junior year auto shop class not knowing the difference between carburation and EFI. Now I can tell you damn near everything (damn near being the key word) in an engine and what it does. I work on a lot of my friends' cars too because I get stuff done in a timely fashion and don't cut corners or overcomplicate things.

Honestly.. I think everyone needs to remember that WE WERE ALL ONCE BEGINNERS. We all started out not knowing what to do. Therefore, ones just starting out here should get some respect. At least theyre trying and learning along the way (JUST LIKE WE ALL DID). So maybe he "overcomplicated" it and took a long time... But now he knows. Yall need to get off your high horses. Seriously.

Most are trying to learn but bimmer isn't... he can have 30 people tell him what to do in 4 threads and a couple of forums but still not try it because its too hard or he doesn't get it.
I think his two most popular blunders are his multiple rear shock threads and this write up.
