That $900 in one hour is usually mostly an expensive part... Which would probably take more than an hour to replace. Most expensive hourly labor I have seen is $85, but that was small engine repair. Auto labor is cheaper.

Do your research.

You know what bimmer... I'm a 18 year old high school drop out.. it took me probably about a half hour to do my vc gasket.. growing up I didn't have a mechanic dad or anything, I'm the only person in my extended family that works on things. If I, a high school drop out with no previous mechanical experience can do it in a half hour you are just plain stupid.. they're really no other ways to put it.
And btw I did my first vc gasket on my xj when I was 15.
I'm also doing pretty well for a high school drop out being that I make more than the national average for single income..

Bimmer you just really need to face the facts.. this s*** isn't for you, take your jeep to a shop..

I have a bachelors degree in Civil Engineering and an Associates degree in Applied Sciences. Had a real easy office job, making very reasonable money. Now Im a industrial maintenance mechanic and do a little HVAC work on the side. A degree doesnt mean a damn thing about your intelligence. Half of the people i work with are HS dropouts and I learn from them everyday. I wouldnt trade what i do now for anything. 'Merica

It supposedly takes 20 mins to do a valve cover gasket, which costs over $300 at a dealer. Time is true, $300 at a dealer isn't...if you paid that you're dumb
When a drop out can bill $900 for an hour of his time, it speaks volumes.
More than doctors and lawyers. This just confirms that auto mechanics takes a lot of experience and a lot of skill. I know of no dealership mechanic that makes $900 an hour

How can mechanics can charge $900 for an hour of work? They don't
B/c it's not easy, and no one knows how to do this stuff. For you, and we do, you don't

Working on XJ's is insufferable b/c every single bolt is rusted solid. On the Barnacle, yes
And, it's the got the most poorly documented write-ups of any car forum out there. It's worked for the rest of us so far
For these 2 reasons, XJ is the hardest car I've ever worked on, but it has raised my game. LOL
That which doesn't kill you only makes you stronger. Unless you do yoga
You better own torches, compressors, grinders, welders, you name it! I do, but that's not why

Working on XJ's are not for the fainthearted beginner. Yet, you do
And dealers charging $300+ for 20 mins. of work is the proof. OK buddy.
I usually refrain from direct personal attacks....

...but you're an idiot.

Entertaining, though...

I'm locking this thread before bimmer says one more negitive thing about mechanics. As one I find that as a personal attack.
