ZJ alternator in a XJ

will a "inline 6" 96 grand cherokee alternator work in my 91 xj? my alternator took a dump on me so my buddy is giving me his extra one for free

it will fit you just need to modify the bracket a little bit. (from what i remember from a build thread on here)

Don't mod the bracket. the mounts on the ZJ alt are a little fatter, so you will need the grind them down a little. Do the mods on the Alternator housing NOT the bracketry.

i am not trying to argue with you, but why would you mod the alt instead of the bracket? there is 6 bolts holding everything together and it would still act as one unit. no matter which was modified, right?
