ZJ alternator in a Jeep XJ. Which?
I did use the search key and found a few different answers from last year. Can someone clarify, on my year/make/model which alternator do I need for an upgrade? 1998 Jeep GC 136amp? Someone said direct fit, while others say had to modify the bracket. Then someone else said use a Dakota alt and its direct fit.
Thanks
Thanks
The GC is not a direct fit, you need to modify the bracket and clearance the block a little. Pretty simple to do. You need to make sure of the style connector you have on the back of the alternator. They switched from a stud style (has 4 connections, iirc) to a plug in style, but I am not sure of the year. The Dakota should be a direct fit but I can't remember from what year at the moment, but it should be from the 2.5l. Remember, you should probably upgrade your wiring at the same time.
O-rilley's looks to have the one for the XJ @ 136amp. I assume it fits without grinding.
