I've heard undercoating tends to trap water and rust. That it's better to leave it off.

I guess if you wanted to, you could black out the undercarriage with Krylon Rust-Tough.

Those underside pictures are shocking to me. I live in the South.

If that's the best you can find, offer $300 for it and watch the owner scream. You can always come up a little. Not over $1000 though.

You never did say how much is he asking for it. Or did I just miss that part?

Hah you should see the underside of my XJ that I paid too much for...

Undercoating CAN trap stuff, my first thought on the OP's pictures are that it looks only a couple of months old. What's it hiding?

So we went out there last night and I went over this thing with a fine tooth comb. I was actually going out of my my and over exaggerating any little thing I could find that he hadnt already told me about so I could try and talk him down. This thing was shockingly clean! The pictures did it no justice at all.

The bolts for the leaf springs, crossmember etc werent even rusty! Just surface rust like he said. The one spot I found was around the driver floor pan drain plug, which was nothing. Even she said the fender looked a lot worse in the pictures than it did in person. I got to drive it around and it had no problems at all, ran smooth. Interior was really clean. A/C and heat worked great. The driver door sags a bit which I have read is common, but due to that the door latch was jammed up.

So he said he will fix the door shutting problem, clean it up a bit and take care of a few other little things before we go pick it up. That just leaves me with basic maintenance (just so we know), banging out that fender, finding a replacement flare or removing the other ones, new head unit (has stock one with tape player) and last but not least lifting it!

So, you're paying 2k for that thing? Patience is a virtue. You're going to work on it more than you're going to wheel it. I'd use 200 of that cash to drive a bit farther south and find a nice 4 door for far less than that. She's gotta put the groceries somewhere...

She looks A LOT like someone I know.

No I did not pay his asking price. I talked him down a good bit actually. And like I said, the pictures made it look a lot worse than it really is. Once I get it to my garage and clean it up, Ill post better pictures to show it. Its probably cleaner then any of my friends cherokees lol

I see most of you are from southern states where you dont see rust so any sign of it and you can move onto the next one. But up here its just something you see on all the vehicles and this one really isnt bad at all.

And after searching for months and looking at so many rusty, expensive, stock 2 doors I tried showing her some cheap lifted 4 doors and she just wasnt having it. We were both about to give up on the search for a while but saw this one and were pleasantly surprised with it. Everyone I turned down before had structural rust problems and needed serious welding. This will need little to none at all

You know that you can't just say you talked them down on the price without telling us what you ended up paying for it. LOL Also just because we don't live in the north doesn't mean we don't see rust. You would be amazed on the rusted vehicles that are down here in South Tx. When I first moved from Cal. to S. Tx I drove my 65 Chevy P/U and it had very little to no rust on it. With in 6 months of living here It started building rust really bad.

Well obviously everything we said had no bearing on what you ended up doing. You had your mind made up to buy this thing before you ever posted.

Enjoy your Jeep.

At least she got her 2 door.

Haha lets just say we can buy the lift for it a lot sooner now with how much we saved.

Im sorry if you feel that way but I assure you I did take everyones opinion seriously here and it made me really double check everything and look for things I wouldnt have known about. Like all the other ones, I had no intentions on buying any of them until I got there as to not get anyones hopes up. The only reason I posted about this one was because it actually did look and sound a lot better. We went with the mind set of "we're probably just wasting our time like the other ones", "probably another rust bucket" and were surprised at its condition.

I truly believe once I clean it up and take better pictures, most of you will agree with me. It really needs very little work and no welding repairs

As long as it runs great and has no structural damage, you're good to go. Dents, rust, and other minor things like that, can be taken care of. Clean it up, jack it up, and send her out in the world. Once she gets the feel of it, and knows how her rig will respond to her, then she can doll it up all she wants.

Congrats and welcome to the Forum!

We should keep this going, like "My Father's a fireman, but my house burned to the ground" or "My father's a priest but I'm going to hell".
