The service manager was conspicuously sheepish when I spoke to him about it. I don't know much, but I was able to figure out from looking at schematics of brake assemblies I found on the web that the clip would have to have been replaced by them when they swapped out the brake booster. The clip is supposedly a 'use once only' component - to me, it seems they may have also re-used, rather than replaced. To me, therefore, it was a bad workmanship issue.
Obviously not wanting to take any heat, he skirted the issue and just told me that the problem was now fixed, had been checked by a number of technicians and that he personally had test driven the Jeep to ensure it was now fit for the road.
Out here in the Middle East, you take what 'good' service you can get. There ain't no scope for suing anybody for anything - whoever is sponsoring Jeep as a franchise here is probably a very powerful local who has connections within the court system and so is likely to be untouchable. This is why you come out here at your peril - poor standards are the norm and expect no redress if things go wrong.
Such is life in sunny Arabia, I'm afraid!
Anyhow, back now behind the wheel of my beloved XJ and feel right at home again. Here's hoping that my troubles (brake-wise, at least!) are over.
Thanks again to all for their input.
