xj t-case
so my idot moms boyfriend somehow found a way to loose a drive shaft and crack the transfer case(pulling into the gas station). So i was wondering if someone could tell me if i can drop a transfer case without dropping the tranny. Or if someone knows where a write up is. Thanks
And how do i know im getting the right t-case when i go to the junkyard? I thought all the t-case's were the same on the xj's but from what ive read there not. Thanks for any help

i dont know i asked myself the same thing.
i gave this jeep hell. my friend has a farm and all we do is go four wheeling. This jeep has proved itself to me. I sold it to him becuase he needed somthing and at the time its what i had to do. Im working on getting another. But when i had this jeep i never had any problems, except blowing an oil line hauling *** across a field. I dont see how he breaks this thing so much just going down the road.

What year is this Jeep? In addition to the transfer model there are other variances such as speedo housing and spline count. You have to know what your replacing..

larger salvage yards use an interchange guide, they can look up and tell what parts will work on other vehicles or different years. if you go to a you pull it yard you need to know what you're looking for.

Your looking for an NP231 or NP242 with a 21 spline input gear and mechanical speedometer.
In 90-91ish they swapped to 23 spline inputs and electrical speedo's.
Does your Jeep have the "Fulltime" option on the transfer shifter bezel? If it does you have an NP242, if it does not you have an NP231.
