XJ skid plate set

XJ skid plate set
I found a skid plate set in a local JY. They are on a 91. Any thoughts on what JY's usually charge for them? I'm thinking of going back out on saturday and grabbing them.

Well my first question is what year XJ do you own.
Cause I am pretty sure that a '96 and down gas tank skid is different then a '97 and up.
Not sure if it will work or not.
So we talking all three?
Front, gas tank, and transfer case?
It depends.
My thoughts are don't pay more then a $100 for all three.
And think that might be too much.
But I shouldn't really talk cause I paid $115 for all three for my Jeep. LOL.
Bought from 3 separate places.
But in my defense not only was the front skid brand new but I got it delivered to me. LOL.
$50 for the front skid, $50 for the gas skid, and $15 for the transfer case one.
Make sure you grab all the hardware for the front skid.
For the transfer case one you will probably have to install a couple rivnuts.
Grab the hardware to just for the hell of it.
And for the gas tank skid grab the bolts also.
But if you don't have one in the Jeep already you will need the nutstrip for at least the passenger side if not both.
And to install them you have to remove the bumper.

I would google what type they are and go from there. And then negotiate with them for what you feel is a fair, honest deal.

I have a 96. From what I have heard the plates will fit every year XJ, 84-01. If not then I would imagine they would fit from a 91.

For reference, in the middle of the image is the nutstrip Ralph's talking about.
When I removed this skid cover the other one fell to pieces.
My front uses 3 or 4 M10x 20 bolts and 2 M8 bolts to mount. I haven't gotten around to the transfer case one but I don't have the nut inserts so would need to rivnut as Ralph said. And the rear uses those strips.

Didn't stop me from putting one on my Jeep. MLOL.
Well two actually. They only made it for the driver's side but I got an extra one and modded it to use on the passenger side.

The skid plates are worth more than gold imho. They are worth their weight in sweat, busted knuckles and blisters. The front one spares the alternator from drownings and from mud packing. The rear one keeps pointy things from poking holes in the gas tank and protects it from dents.

I wouldn't trust that to have a flatbed pull my Jeep onto it in a parking lot let alone out of a ditch.
It is one bolt in the nutstrip in the uni-body.

I might have lied though.
Might have been 2 bolts in the nutstrip in the uni-body and one in that piece of metal that runs left to right at the back of the Jeep.
But still..... LOL.
