I've scoured the web for front seat coves for my xj. Seems almost all offerings are for full front and back sets. All I need is one front seat with builtin headrest. For that matter I actually only need the bottom part, not the back.
I did purchase one on Amazon and it was junk despite decent reviews. Poor fit. Flimsy elastic straps that stretched out and were useless after about a day. Pretty much slipped off every time getting in/out.
Any suggestions?

 

Not sure what I would do in the US. Here in Africa my shadetree mechanic
called in a guy who does car and furniture upholstery. He sewed up some
good tears in my driver's seat and it has held up fine for four or five years
now, no cover necessary.

If I wanted a seat cover, I could go to the fabric seller here in town and pick a
good furniture grade fabric, then go to a seamstress and have her make it up,
and then alter it as necessary. Or get some naugahyde from a store in the city,
which is how we redid my headliner 15+ years ago.

I guess hypodermic needles are all the mode now, but there has to be some
decent people still around who know how to use an old-fashioned needle.

Maybe get a spare tire cover made while you're at it.

Excuse me for funnin' a little bit. Everybody here has a seamstress or a tailor
they go to. Not much ready-to-wear sold here. Lots of welders here, few lawyers.
I'm 71, been here 22 years, and there is a lot I would miss when I leave.

But anyway, ask an upholsterer or the grayest-haired lady at JoAnn fabrics
if they have any recommendations.

 

Check any local yards. Took a while but I finally came across a set. Color was right but pattern was different. Hard to tell unless unless you look closely.

Mine on the right. "Salvage" one on the left. Seat pan on mine was also broken. Got 2 good seat pans and the backrest cover too, They cleaned up nicely.

 

Ive had very limited experience with aftermarket xj seat covers and what I did experience was nothing positive. From Amazon to Walmart and the local bargain auto parts chain stores the cover wither didn't fit well OR didn't hold up at all.

I have since stuck to keeping an eye out for better condition seats either through marketplace or you-wrench yards.

Otherwise a cheap Falsa blanket works well enough and come in multiple clor variations to fit your privy

 

I’ve had the same trouble with my XJ. I finally went with Wet Okole truck seat covers, and they fit perfectly without slipping off. They’re built to last, too. It might be worth checking with them to see if they can supply just the bottom part you need. Their customer service is pretty helpful.

 

They do look very nice, and I appreciate the lead. However, for the two fronts only @ $433, a bit pricy for my off-road jeep. I am sure for someone doing a nice restoration they would be something to seriously consider.
