Default XJ rebuild ?'s

Okay so my 87 xj's battery died right before i was gonna start my rebuild and i couldnt keep it running so i bought a 96 f250 4x4. MY xj has been sitting in the front yard with the valve cover off for about 6 months or better.
Going to start working on it soon and here are the problems i had from the get go
- Stalled out when pressing gas
- Steering was pretty loose
- Reverse was out but 1st was fine?
- Burned some oil
- 289,xxx Miles on body and motor
- Doors hard to open and shut.

My plans are to get this jeep completely rebuilt but keep it stock.
If someone can help me figure out those problems listed above i would appreciate it.

stalling most likely a sensor like the throttle body sensor. steering if there is no play in the joints upfront rebuild the steering box. if its auto then there is a band around the trans that has a clutch pad on it that is part of the reverse and that clutch pad could be gone or the pads on the inside of the pack could be gone if its the band there will be a noise if its the pads in the pack you will see glittery oil and both need rebuilds. oil could be from the piston rings judging from the miles or a overheated head could be anything and needs a rebuild. doors could be out of adjust ment or some bushings could be bad. let me know more info and i can further help out.
