So prior to it overheating my cherokee had a coolant leak. Seemed to be coming from the water pump. It defenitly wasnt coming from any of the Radiator hoses or radiator. I was working on steering issues at the time & was gonna address this next. So I was just keeping it full with water & what was left of coolant. It overheated & died so I parked it, came back the next day to drive it to my house (it was right around the corner). It started right up & drove for a while then when i stopped at a stop sighn it just died & did not want to start back up at all (It did not overheat this time).

My questions are? Is my motor done for? or if i replace the water pump it should be fine? any help would be greatly appreciated.

If it stalled while cold, it's not a coolant issue, right?
Read up about head gasket, etc. Any white smoke?

 

I am going say based on what little information you provided the outcome will not be spectacular.

 

You need to provide a lot more information. Simply overheating isn't a death sentence.
