XJ overhead console temperature
Hello guys, I just installed an overhead console in my ‘00 that just had the dome light. I pulled the overhead console and wiring harness out of a junkyard ‘98 so of course I had to modify the harness but the console lights and display work! Now on the compass and temperature setting the compass is correct but my temperature reading reads 0°C. I’m assuming that I do not have an ambient air temperature sensor on my XJ, I read somewhere that there is a sensor behind the bumper but that junkyard ‘98 was wrecked in the front and the bumper was gone. If anyone has done this swap or knows where to find that sensor and how it’s wired that’d be awesome, thanks in advance!

I have taken the front end off of several XJs. None have had the ambient temperature sensor, but all of them have had the wiring in place behind the bumper. I would think if you find the sensor, you should be ble to plug it in and you'd be good to go.

Just got done putting a '99 overhead in my '00. The wiring should be there. See the first shot. The sensor itself can be bought new. See the link. Now click on the words Buyer's Guide. This will tell you all the vehicles that use this part. Comes in handy if you want to go on a boneyard hunt for it. Now here is the slight problem I had. I ripped overhead console parts out of 3 Jeeps. All '99's. So you would think that the sensor would just plug into the wiring in the first shot. For some reason I could not get it to plug in securely. Then I realized I had a short piece of harness, about a foot long, that connected to the existing wiring and that the senor plugged into. That all hooked up no problem. The existing plug looked exactly the same as the plug the sensor connected to on the short harness. So I have no idea why this was an issue. I wish I had a picture of the short harness to show you but don't. Also I would give you the Mopar part # for the sensor but can't seem to find it at the moment.
