I'm looking into getting a xj. We have a problem with odometer fraud in my area.

Are there any noticeable indications that the dash has been opened or the odometer tampered with? ie: pry point, scratched screws, areas that don't reset as factory

Any thoughts would be great.

You can switch out a new instrument panel very easily.

On that note, Xj's are old. All are going to have a lot of miles anyway. Check the normal stuff, fluids, leaks, rust, suspension and steering components. Easy motors to work on, can be had for cheap if needed, and if they are taken care of properly will run just about forever.

 

I don't know if my cluster had been changed out, prior to purchase. But, there are white finger prints all over my cluster; beneath the lens. As if someone had tampered w/ it. I wouldn't be surprised if they did. Doesn't matter... it runs. Besides, at least I have finger prints, if it ever came down to it.
