xj getting to hot
Rural mail carrier here, so my driving involves stopping alot and slow speed. I've begun wondering if I might have a slow coolant leak, but never a puddle. It does heat up at reduced speed. Never overheated, but I feel like heating up causes a/c to kick off.
Is it logical at this point to just replace the obvious culprits...water pump and possibly radiator or is there something I've overlooked? Upgrade waterpump is about $100, but the upgrade for radiator is pricey at $500.

just do a lower T state like a 180 or even a 160 . with the 180 state i did i still get up around 200 idling you may have a possible a leak try looking at your over flow bottle for heat cracks . but also i used to run at 210 and in heavy take traffic below 35 it would got up past 210 and kick on my secondary fan . Have you put New coolant in it recently?

Between 210 and 240 in 85 degree weather is normal with a stock system. If you want to run cooler temps without a ton of money, run hood vents. There is a great write up in the write up section on how to do this. I have been around and around with this on my Jeep, an '01 XJ, and I finally put a 3 row copper radiator in mine. I now run a little under 210 on the highway, and half way in between the 210 mark and the first mark after the 210 mark in traffic, in any weather up to 115 degrees with the A/C on. When wheeling on a hot day I am at about 218 degrees, right about when the fan comes on. These temps are better than normal for our vehicles operating in the temps that they are operating in. If I had to do it all over again, I would have just done the the hood vents. The engine compartments in XJ's are very cramped and hold in a lot of heat. All I know is I can open my hood or have the hood partialy closed and just cracked open in the front about an inch, and idle the car untill the cows come home in 100 degree weather, and the fan will never come on. So that tells me that letting the engine compartment breate is going to have the greatest impact. Just my opinion based on what I have learned from dealing with my XJ.
