my 99 a long time ago had a dead spot in the fuel sending unit. it is mounted to the fuel pump in the fuel tank and looks like a resistor board that a piece of metal scrapes up and down on changing the resistance of the fuel gauge power giving you the right indication in the instrument panel. it can be purchased seperately from jeep and not hard to change other than you have to drop the tank.

have also heard where the connector on back of instrument cluster gets corrosion or loose in dash and people have takenn it out, cleaned the connector pins and reinstalled. any other problems with other gauges??
