Hey there, first post here. Im very excited about this website, I think this place is gonna help me a lot. Anyways to me question. Just recently I bought a 1993 Cherokee Sport. Its been about two months and things just keep happening. The previous two owners thought they were mechanics and messed around with the electrical and the engine, which is a shame because Its not a bad lookin rig and I love it. Ok....so I was driving my family to church today and the engine just turns off, no puttering no anything. So I pull over, put it in park and it starts right up. However I go to start it after church and nothing. The engine would turn over and over but no ignition. So I bummed a ride home with some friends(which is freakin embarassing cuz they know how much I love my XJ). So four hours later I go back and first turn of the key it starts right up. I think it might be the ignition going out but I'm no mechanic, I do know there was gas going to the engine cuz I checked the hose, so I dont think its the fuel pump but who knows. What are your thoughts? I would like to add though that in the last couple of weeks sometimes it takes a five turns of the key to get it started, but it happened very rarely. remove/inspect plugs,replace......check condition of wired,cap,rotor. you may have a bad coil...IGN switch etc.........a fuel pressure guage wouldnt hurt.
