Hi everyone, I have an 01' xj and the A/C is not working. The aux. electric fan is supposed to turn on when A/C is switched on or in defrost mode. The fan comes on when the thermostat reaches 210 degrees so I know the fan works. I also checked the fan relay in the fuse box under the hood and I hear it click when I turn on the A/C but it does not power the fan. Also I pulled the relay out and there is power to the relay. Are there any other relays or fuses to check? Anybody else ever have this problem? Thanks

 

The PCM runs the fan when the compressor is running.

If your a/c is not working, neither will the fan in a/c mode.

 

Oh and the compressor and clutch are working for about 5 minutes or so until it heats up and the system shuts down. I'm thinking that because the fans not working, the condensor is heating up and pressure builds causing the compressor to shut down. Does that make sense?

 

Yes... it makes perfect sense.

The system has a pressure-sensor that reports to the PCM. If the pressure sensor reads high-pressure, the PCM shuts the compressor down.
