XJ Electric Fan Conversion?
Heard this gives you a big HP boost, maybe 10-20?
wondering if anyone has done this?
if so what is a good one to look for(in the junkyard)
is there a good one that fits in easily? i know the xj's have a sort of aqward raiater

could it also help with overheating in older xj's? i know there prone to do that, especially while wheelin

it's not really going to help with the over heating issue. electric fans only kick on when the CPU reads the high engine temps, then it kicks on. the metal mechanical fan runs as the engine is running, so cool air is always going to be introduced to keep the engine cooler. i have read a couple things though that say if you get rid of the fan clutch and put in a spacer to fill the gap, it's supposed to help with the over heating issue. i haven't found too much information in regards to that, but i'm sure someone on here could tell you better than i cold about it.
this is one of the spacers here on . not too expansive either. for horsepower gains though, that could be open to interpretation.

If you get rid of the clutch, it will cool better because the fan clutch will never transfer 100% rpms to the fan. It is intended to help with milage. So less horsepower to the fan equals more gas milage.
As far as the electric fans go, if you use the engine ECM to turn the on, then yes they won't come on until 217*. If you wire a switch to then and run two electrics with enough CFM all the time, then it will help with the over heating espesially on trails or rush hour traffic.

It's pretty easy to mount.
for those with good eyes....I have a new upper radiator hose and my fuel line has been repaired.This was back when I first got it.

If you pull the a/c clutch fuse, the a/c won't come on but the electric fan will, when the selector **** is set to a/c. Might come in handy for slow wheelin'.

i have'nt had any overheating problems, i'm more interested in the horsepower aspect. just trying to see if anyone has done this, and if they have noticed any difference?

i am in the process of doing the ford taurus fan on my xj right now. I am not using an expensive control modual or a manual switch. 2 temp temp switch off of a vw something or ether(one side kicks on at 190 for low and the other at 213 for high) I had to re locate the radiator 3/4 of an inch forward.
And if you do wanna do it go ahead and upgrade to the 136amp grand cherokee alt to cover the amp load(cost bout $35 to do)
I will try to do a write up and post pictures (on both fans and alt) if you want me to. Can i post pics as a newbie?

and as far as a 180 thermal switch goes it might make your themastat work a little funky because its pretty far away from my stock 193 thermastat. generally you want to stay within 3 degrees of you thermastat when running electric fans

well your gonna get a boost but i dont think you will notice it . i heard 10 to 12 hp.. my jep is a lot heavier than when it was new and its not a sports car .. its a tractor.. i had a taurus fan but it was way too much work for an xj and even if you build a proper shroud for it the blades are gonna hang below the rad. it might blow alot of air but i dont think it is the best one for the job.. look for a cadilac sts fan ..it will be a much closer fit and they blow tons.. now i have mine wired so the first fan comes on as soon as i turn on the key.. runs all the time the second fan comes on with the a/c switch ( a/c was gone long ago ) and i have another switch that will turn them both off when i am doing deep water crossings

just my opinion again but unless your doin more to the engine than that it aint gonna help much at all ..

it does hang below the raditator but is about the perfect size and shape for an aftermarket trans cooler.
What is the cfm rating on the caddy fans?
what years are they on?
