xj cherokee after new trans wont start

Default xj cherokee after new trans wont start

i have a xj 98 jeep cherokee sport and after putting a reconditioned trans back in it, it wont fire, it has fuel and turns over fine just wont fire, i live in Australia and its hard to get any support here, any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like you have a problem with yoir nuetral safety switch. Bad comnection or just forgot to hook it up.

Just realized you said its cranking over.. probably broke yoir crank position sensor when putting the tranny back in.

u may have got some wires in the bellhousing when you boltedb it up

I'll post it here too.

Go stand on the drivers side with the hood up, shine a flash light between the very back of the intake manifold and the firewall. Look at the top of the bell housing and you'll see a small sensor with 2 bolts holding it in place. That's the CPS. It'll have a harness coming from it and should plug in on top of the intake manifold.

I BET it's either not plugged in or the mechanic didn't swap your original one onto the new transmission.

This sensor tells the coils when to fire. The Jeep will not run without it.

There IS a problem with that sensor. (You need a new mechanic.)

Thanks mate being an Aussie vehicle it will be on the passenger side thanks for your help this is a great web site as there is not much support here or the dealers want a fortune to fix it all good

If you go plug that sensor in you can drive the Jeep to work.

Your saying you don't have a cps on your jeep? I cant imagine how else you would get.oir spark timing correct without one.
