XJ center console (i know, i know)
Ok before everyone thinks this is just another post about cup holders, or lack of.
I am going to be building a center console for my 87 XJ. It has a manual trans and is 4wd so I have 2 shift levers and a park brake to work around. I'm wondering if/how other people have done theirs.
I bought 2 cam locks from mc master, one for the new locking console, and one for a locking cover over my stereo, both locks are keyed the same. I will be moving the deck down to the "area" the ash tray was, sliding the park brake lever forwards, adding the cupholders, and making the locking compartment section deaper. Also in there somewhere will be a switch panel. It will be framed with square tubing and covered with sheetmetal and I have a plasma for tricky angles.
Anyone have any input?
Thanks.

Probably not. I went with a simple design. I have the mini console that goes around the trans and tcase shifter. All I really wanted was a cup holder and a place to mount my CB. I made a simple wood box with two cup holders and an inset area on the drivers side for the CB. I will still try to take pics... Maybe this weekend I will get around to finishing it up and painting it.

I got my cam locks earlier this week and today I picked up some metal for my console "frame". It might take a bit to get anything really done since last week I got a second degree sunburn in an hour. So my shoulders are peeling down to the white meat lol.
When I get on my laptop ill post info about my plasma cutter.

here is the company i got my plasma cutter from http://www.longevity-inc.com/
i contacted them from a thread on pirate, got the plasma unit, free shipping, and a free 30 pack of consumables for a very good price. it can be ran off of 110 or 220 just by changing the plug. the machine tells what power source it is getting and resets internally on its own. right now i am using it as 110 but will be splicing another plug on the cord so i wont have to rewire the plug each time.
