I understand for checking and no I'm always at a complete stop when I'm trying to shift to 1-2, I do have some smarts. When I shift though each gear it works fine and they are in the proper gear, when the shifter is in park ithe trans is in park when its drive the trans is in drive. I took apart the console and it looks like when the shifter is in third thats farest the shifter is allowed to go. I'm going to take a better look in the morning. thanks for the response.

I've had to deal with some pretty stupid people at my work with car "problems", and all they turn out to be is the owner is clueless. Nothing like having someone complain about clunking coming from the back of the car for a week and the wife is afraid to drive it (for fear of something breaking), and the trunk is full of golf clubs and golf ***** rolling around. Owner put them in a week ago and can't make the connection. We took the clubs and ***** out, took the owner on a test drive with us (no clunking) and he was amazed, we "fixed" it. I told him we didn't fix anything, we took the clubs out. Ya know what the kicker is? We got back to the shop, put the clubs BACK in the trunk, and the customer left. The stupid S.O.B. was back within 10 minutes complaining about the clunking again! We put the clubs in his back seat and sent him out the door...

On to another topic, I have searched for a few days now and can't seem to find anyone on the threads that have swapped out the 2.8(gm junk) for a 4.3,3.8 or a 4.0 on an 86 XJ, will any of these fit without problems or do I need to eliminate some metal, I would rather put a jeep motor in a jeep but if I have to stick with gm, I'd rather use the 4.3

Hi all,
Bought a 1992 cherokee sport recently and have since noticed a safety concern:
Both of the front seatbelts won't stop themselves when you pull on them quickly. Therefore, they are essentially doing nothing.
Is this something that could have been disabled by the previous owner, or perhaps it is broken and needs replacement/fixing?
Thanks for any suggestions...

OK, I got the hvac control light to work and the light that lights up the shifting area (bulbs) and I cleaned all the grounds, but the dome lights still don't work. I'm not getting any voltage to the light connections and the fuse is good. Could it be that the light itself is bad, thus shorting out both dome lights? I have been working on the jeep all weekend (leafspring replacement, lights, stereo/speaker install, and overall cleaning). Also the powerlocks do not work. Is the main switch on the drivers door FUBAR? The power windows work from drivers door, but not at each specific door. Any suggestions? I also have major rust from the rocker panels to floor front to back on both sides and in the back in the cargo area (I can see insulation in quite a few places). I know I have alot of questions, so any one answer to the above questions is much appreciated -- I have way more time than money!

Airbox mod?
Hey this guy I know modified his airbox simply by drilling holes in it (98 grand cherokee.) He originally put a bunch on side of the airbox with no effect, then he put some in the front of the box and apparently that worked.
It gives the exhaust a pretty decent rumble, and his engine apparently is running smoother as a result. Just wondering what are your thoughts on this, and if I should do this as well to my 97 cherokee or is there something bad with this mod.
