I might have to start a thread about this

Did you bleed them?

If you did than something has to be broken/collapsed/leaking somewhere.

Sorta, TJ axles are the same width too, but you will need to cut off the old spring and shock mounts and weld new ones on like he said. That'd probably end up being a D35 though, not sure on DS length

What would you be willing to pay for a D44 with 3.55 gears and a bunch of metallic sludge in the bottom? I found one I could pick up for pretty cheap but I can't afford to dump a ton of $$ into it. (Just trying to get an idea how good of a deal it is.)

Yeah, xj. I think I can get it for around $100. I don't really need it, and I'm short on play money right now, but I'm having a hard time passing it up. It's only the second one I've seen.

What are your plans for it? That might help decide what you should pay for it and if its worth it... Getting it geared and ready to run might run you more than you could make...

I'm planning on running 3.55s so that part would work but the sludge has me concerned. If I buy it and try to run it and find out it needs bearings or something, I'd probably sell it as a builder.
I guess my origional question should have been "how much would you pay for an XJ Dana 44 core to build"?
I'm just trying to find out if it's worth the hassle. Like I said it's only the second one I've seen.

My guess is your vacuum booster is shot and needs to be replaced. Change the master cylinder while you're at it.
